E3 presents: 2 Artist & 1 Track
Beyonce had a whole mess of unreleased tracks from her B’Day sessions and Mario has had some trouble with album release dates (Go! has been pushed back a lot since last year), so they both had some leftover tracks and time to mess around in the studio. So, here are two different version of the song “If.” Beyonce’s version is very melodic, and full of drama - from the vocal arrangement, to the production.
Mario’s version is more R&B-flavored song (he sings similar lyrics to the Beyonce version, but over Trey Songz’s “Can’t Help But Wait” track).
Even though they are two completely different takes on the song, you know E3 has to ask the question… who sang it better? Did Beyonce kill it, or did Mario do the song justice?

There’s a very interesting story in NY Magazine this week, they managed to get Frank Lucas and Nicky Barnes on the phone together.
Turns out, when Cam’ron talked to 60 Minutes about snitching…guess who was watching? Nicky Barnes!!
Nicky says:
“I testified against the guys who were in the Council along with me… Guy Fisher, Frank James, Wally, Coco, Kenny… When I went into the joint, I gave Guy Fisher a woman of mine and told him to look out for her, take care of her. I didn’t expect him to start fucking her.”
But Nicky then says:
“When I realized they left me on the battlefield to die, I said, “Fuck it!” … I said, “I’ll pull those motherfuckers in, let them see what it’s like.”… I don’t regret it. I saw this show on CNN, with Anderson Cooper. Cats were talking about “Don’t snitch, no matter what happens.” Well, I can’t see how a guy can be considered strong if he lets a bunch of assholes walk all over him and he doesn’t respond, just because of some code that a bunch of idiots have cooked up. Anderson Cooper asked this rapper, “Suppose a child was molested and you knew who this molester was. Would you tell the police?” He said, “No.” So that’s what I’m sayin’—the street guidelines are just moron bullshit."

Halle Berry was apologizing last night after she’d made an apparent anti-Semitic joke while taping “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” last week.
The Oscar-winning star, on the show to promote her movie “Things We Lost in the Fire,” was showing Leno and his audience images of herself on her computer using the Mac program Photo Booth, which distorts images like a carnival fun-house mirror.
According to one audience member, “She introduced the first photo by saying, ‘Here’s where I look like my Jewish cousin!’ - it was a picture of her with a huge, distorted nose. No one laughed, and Jay nervously said, ‘I’m glad you said that and not me.’ When the show aired, they cut out her ‘Jewish’ comment and added a laugh track to the bit.”
Another guest in the audience told us, “If you watch the clip, you can see Halle saying the word ‘Jewish,’ though obviously there is no audio. NBC covered her a - -. Ms. Berry should know how unbelievably inappropriate her comment was . . . She should be ashamed of herself.”
Berry, 41, who sounded like she was near tears, told Page Six last night:
“I so didn’t mean to offend anybody - and after the show I realized it could be seen as offensive, so I asked Jay to take it out, and he did. Will Smith is not reprising his role in 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' sitcom.

QB/dogfighting kingpin Michael Vick, who is currently battling some financial woes, has put his Duluth, Ga. home on the market. According to the listing the home, a waterfront property set on 1.5 acres, features 7 bedrooms and 8.5 bathrooms. The home also includes a two-story library/office, where Vick no doubt spent time reading classics such as 'Old Yeller.'
The estimated monthly payment for the house is $23,206, costly for Vick whose bank account has taken a big hit in recent months. Vick's real estate news comes more than a week after he lost an arbitration hearing and was ordered to re-pay the Falcons $19.9 million in bonus money. He is also still suspended from the NFL indefinitely, i.e. he won't be picking up a paycheck for some time.

T.I. Will Remain In Jail
T.I. will remain in jail on weapons charges for at least another week, after a federal judge on Friday denied any immediate release on bond. U.S. Magistrate Judge Alan Baverman said he will hold another hearing next Friday to further consider conditions proposed by the rap star’s lawyers that may prompt him to release their client pending trial. T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, Jr., was arraigned at the Friday hearing. He entered a plea of not guilty to the weapons charges. Lawyers for Harris proposed that he be released on a $2.2 million bond, along with separate bonds backed by his record company, record company executives and the equity of his two homes.
Judge Baverman is not playing around. He doesn’t care about your Free T.I. t-shirts and he doesn’t care about T.I.’s property value. He doesn’t even care about the bigwigs at Atlantic Records and Warner Brothers who put up their own money to back T.I.’s $2.2 million dollar bond.
He wants to see $2.2 million in cash, upfront, like a ransom straight out of a South American corporate kidnapping. Lala Brown and Boyfriend Found Dead in Studio
Yolanda ‘Lala’ Brown, 21, best known for singing with Lyfe Jennings on the song, “S.E.X” was found murdered alongside her boyfriend in Milwalkee on Friday. I got a lot of emails about this yesterday but finally found a valid link.
A familiar voice to Milwaukee R & B fans has been silenced. Twenty-one year old Yolanda “La La” Brown and her producer, 22-year-old JeTannue Clayborn, were found dead in their recording studio Friday night.
Milwaukee police say both were found in the Loud Enuff Productionz studio at 55th and Lisbon. Both had gunshot wounds and had been dead at least a day before being discovered. They were reportedly dating.
JeTannue’s mother, Dina Chambers, describes him as energetic, with an eye toward making music his career. “He loved music. He loved people. He was very kind. They called him “Koo Laid” because every time you saw him, he was smiling.”

NBA legend Allen Iverson is suing an Atlanta home builder for $6.2 million for what he calls shoddy construction on his new home.
The Denver Nuggets star paid $2.2 million for the exclusive Country Club of the South property in June and quickly moved in with his wife Tawanna and their four children. Two months later the family moved out and Iverson hired Atlanta attorney lawyer Kurt Hilbert to file suit against the builder, seeking more than $6.2 million in damages.
Iverson wants to force the builder to refund the purchase price of $2.2 million and to pay the family for relocation expenses, custom-built furnishings and other damages."When you purchase a high-end home in Atlanta, it is reasonable to expect the highest quality of construction," Hilbert said. "What the Iversons unknowingly purchased was equivalent to buying a Ferrari without an engine."

Breaking Up is Hard to Do
Another Hollywood couple for the books - Nick Cannon and Selita Ebanks called off their engagement and have officially broken up, according to Ebanks’ rep and People magazine: “Selita and Nick are taking a break to focus on their careers but still very much love each other and remain the best of friends,” says her rep, Melissa Raubvogel.
The breakup comes just five months after the Drumline actor made a proposal that lit up New York’s Times Square – literally – as he asked Ebanks to marry him with the help of a jumbotron.
By August, Cannon, 26, was more measured when it came to nailing down wedding details, telling PEOPLE, “We haven’t really talked about a lot of that stuff. You’ve got to take it slow.”
As for Ebanks, 24, she said earlier in the summer that the pair had some fundamental differences between their ideal ceremony. “He’s all about the bling and having a big wedding. Me? I’m all about the courthouse.”

Miss Solange wants it known that she’s is outspoken, artistic and fearless. The songwriter-musician-actress-model-mother chats one-on0one with Essence.com about those plastic surgery rumors, her relationship with Lil Wayne and why big sis “B” is no competition.
ESSENCE.com: As you know there’s a lot of mystery surrounding your relationship with your husband, Daniel Smith, so let’s just go ahead and get that out of the way. Are you still married?
Solange Knowles: Well, I am no longer married, but I think it’s very important not to dish details. We are friends and we coparent our son. When he gets older I don’t want him to read anything about me saying anything about his father or vice versa. When there’s a child involved I think the less information given is best.
ESSENCE.com: What are some of the drawbacks of being in this industry?
S.K.: The lack of privacy is first and foremost. You just have to know that the more successful you get as an artist, the less of a normal life you have. It’s a trade-off. When I say I only want to reach a certain level (professionally), people look at me like I’m full of sh--. But when you get to a certain point, you can’t just go to the mall anymore, and I don’t know if I’m willing to ever give that up.
ESSENCE.com: So you don’t aspire to your sister’s level of superstardom?
S.K.: No, I don’t want to get that far. (Laughs) I feel really bad for my sister. I’m always like “Oh, let’s go to the mall” or “Let’s go here” and she can’t. I enjoy having that.
ESSENCE.com: Let’s address some of the rumors out there. Apparently, folks believe you left your husband for Lil Wayne. Is that true?
S.K.: (Laughs) That’s absolutely not true. Yes, we know each other but I absolutely did not leave my husband for him.
ESSENCE.com: There’s also been some buzz that you had cosmetic surgery—a nose job.
S.K.: (Laughs) Not true. I’ve heard that one, too. That one actually cracked me up. I mean if I got some surgery, I would wait until I’m older and pop out a couple more kids.

Actor Will Smith will be donning his director's cap for his next project - a remake of 1984's Karate Kid. This has nothing to do with Black News or Black Entertainment but people seem to be always interested in Britney Spears these days.
Britney has already lost her mind and now she has lost custody of her kids. Kevin Federline has taken off the gloves and went for full custody of the kids today and TMZ is reporting Britney Spears no longer has custody:
L.A. County Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon issued an order today stating that Kevin Federline, the boys’ father, “is to retain physical custody of the minor children on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at 12:00 PM until further order of the court.”
