A CLOSER LOOK AT FATHER & SON

In the upcoming issue of ESSENCE magazine Usher explains how fatherhood changed his life and his goal of being the best father he can be; plus the magazine gives the first official look at his baby boy, Usher Raymond V. Hill Harper interviewed the R&B singer who explained how fatherhood and marriage changed him for the better. After the jump check out the behind the scenes clip taken at the Essence August 2008 photo session in New York's Bedford Corner back in May

HARPER: Your father wasn't around to raise you. How do you plan to be different for your son than your father was for you?
USHER: Just simply being there. I don't judge my father because I forgave him for anything he'd ever done to hurt me unintentionally. My father and I had a very short amount of time together throughout my entire life, but the most valuable time was during his final days. He asked me to forgive him for not being there. He asked me to give him a chance, give him a shot because he loved me, and he had always loved me. But it was very difficult for him to be in the situation he was in and be the example he wanted me to follow. So he intentionally stayed away. And he was kept away from me too. He didn't like it, but he didn't fight it because he knew he wasn't living right.
HARPER: What would you say to young men and women about what they should expect from a man who's a father? What is living right as a father? How do you define that? How would that man look?
USHER: That man would accept his responsibilities as a father, regardless of whether he was with the mother of the child. Men will leave a situation for several reasons. One, it's not comfortable. It may be violent. The two of you may grow apart. But you should never abandon that responsibility, which is to be there, reading with your child, being supportive of your child's growth. That is communicating. That is making the choice to put your child before your own vanity.

BEYONCE TAKE 2

Here are more pictures of Beyoncé on the set of her new movie "Obsessed" taken earlier this week.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!

Beyoncé Knowles was spotted hard at work filming a scene for her new movie “Obsessed” on Monday. “Obsessed", starring Idris Elba, tells the story of “a successful professional man with a beautiful wife who finds his idyllic life threatened by a temp in his office who reveals herself as a stalker.”

IN THE 'SPOTLIGHT'

You’ve seen her in ‘Sex and the City’ and ‘Dreamgirls,’ and now singer-turned-movie-star JENNIFER HUDSON is coming back with the first single from her upcoming album! Entertainment Tonight's host Kevin Fraizer joined the bubbly singer on the set of “Spotlight,” a song about relationship insecurities.
Although the song was written and co-produced by hit-maker Ne-yo, Jennifer says,
It definitely tells a story of me and my life. What I sing really happens to me.”
As for the video, she made sure to have some man candy for the ladies — some very cute boys!
Jennifer’s new album drops in September. “Spotlight” is on iTunes now!

CASSIE AIMS TO BE WEEZY'S 'OFFICIAL GIRL'

On the Danja-produced track, Cassie says she wants to be her man's one and only. “It could go a bunch of different ways,” she said earlier this week in L.A. on the set of her video for “Official Girl.” Chris Robinson directed and the million-selling Lil Wayne guest-stars on the record. “For me, it meant being with somebody, but not really being with them and wanting their confirmation and wanting them to say it out loud: ‘I want to be your official girl. I’ve had a past experience with it,... unfortunately, that situation didn’t work out [for me]. But yes, I’ve been through it, and it happens to a lot of people. So I was happy to be a part of the song” The track, which is written by The Clutch, is the first single off Cassie’s sophomore album, in stores this September. Plus credit goes to Diddy since he was the one who got Weezy to be featured on the song and appear in the video. Peep the clips below for behind the scenes footage.

E3 BEHIND THE SCENES: JORDIN SPARKS

Jordin Sparks was recently in LA filming a new music video for her next single “One Step At a Time”. Here are a few photos from the set. It looks like Jordin is doing a lot better now that her vocal chords have recovered. Her is what she had to say about her her throat injury:
Sparks insists her illness was never as bad as was reported. She says, ‘They were saying I would never sing again, and I knew I could because, well, it’s my throat. My career could have been in jeopardy if I hadn’t done anything about it. But I knew something was wrong and that I needed to get it checked out.’
